Title | MaryJane
Date | Start: 4/11 End: 7/11

Comments | I’ve been drawing a lot of comic heroes lately, x-men, spider-man etc. This is something I started back in April and decided to finish now while I’m in the mood. I wanted to try and do something different as far as the medium. Usually, I would use a pen tool and ink something like this, but I thought it would be interesting to pencil it instead. So here is the result. This is from a Spider-man comic book cover (I think), but I really like the portrayal of a realistic, normal lifestyle. The perspective is also something I wasn’t used to, but this was definitely fun to do.

Title | Becks and Fight Club
Date | November 2010 & May 2011

Comments | I’ve had little inspiration lately, so I’m posting some work that I’ve archived. The above image was done a few months ago on my tablet, using an ink pen tool and a scratchboard tool (if I remember correctly). The below image (fight club) was actually done on my iPad (I miss you iPad), using the Sketchbook Pro App, photo reference, and a pogo stylus pen.

**Btw, if you have commented on my page recently and you do not see it, it’s not that I didn’t approve it, it’s just that my site is being wacky. I apologize.

Title | Breakfast at Tiffanys
Date | June 2011

Comments | I watched the first 20 minutes or so of the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ over at my sister’s place the other night. I’ve never seen an Audrey Hepburn movie before and I had no idea what the conversations were about in the movie, but I must say that Audrey Hepburn was Hot! She has such a classic beauty that I really like. I mentioned before that I am really into the old classic black and white, 60′s type look… and she really reinforced that. This is a gritty type illustration I did of that iconic opening scene.

Title | GQ
Date | May 2011
Purpose | Personal Exercise

Comments | First, my site is experiencing some problems with the comments link. Sorry for the inconvenience, it will be up and running soon. *Update: Comment link is now working*

I wanted to re-create my favorite GQ cover from last year (maybe of all time), which is of course, Miranda Kerr’s issue. This is slightly different then what I’ve normally posted, but I wanted to do something a little more detailed. I’m trying to become a little more patient with my work without rushing through it for the sake of finishing it. While working on this piece, I’ve realized that I have a lot more to learn about art . My skills have tons of room for improvement. This is more of a traditional way of how I used to draw. I never took any formal art classes in grade school, so I had to teach myself through trial and error and finding a niche on how certain things look on a human figure. Well, I guess I’m still trying to figure it out…

Title | Cool Colors
Date | May 2011

Comments | This image reference was in black and white. Although I love black and white photography, I envisioned this with some splashes of color. The image had very soft tones of grey, so with some experimentation, I decided to depict her in ‘cool’ colors to bring out her highlights. I had a lot of fun experimenting and blending the colors together. I left her hair dark and chose red (one of my favorite colors) for the straps of her shirt to compliment the cool tones and add some boldness to the illustration.

Title | Line
Date | May 2011
Purpose | Experimentation
Tools used | Wacom Tablet | Painter Essentials

Comments | No real purpose to a lot of my illustrations. I saw this image and wanted to convert it into a line drawing, experimenting with the weight. I also like to illustrate figures without really completing every line. Meaning some lines end abruptly or don’t exist at all (like the lines that outlines her forehead and nose). In most cases, I’ll complete the line, but then I’ll start drawing in a negative way and begin to get rid of lines (which is a legitimate way we learned to draw). I like how the human eye will naturally draw in the line for you.

Title | Hun
Date | May 2011
Purpose | Dedication

Comments | First, welcome to my new domain! The site looks slightly different. This illustration is dedicated to my mentor, “uncle”, and mastermind Hun Kim. I wouldn’t have been able to share my work with you all unless it was for this man, who has worked tirelessly to help me with every aspect of my site… and I mean it when I say every aspect. He is not only a computer genius, but he and his wife Grace are amazing artists as well. Behind the camera lens they snap astonishing photos (ghkim.com) and they have both been great mentors to me. We’ve gotten to know each other better through this process. Don’t be fooled by his serious and sexy portrayal here… the man is hilarious! Forever in your debt Hun!

Title | Blah
Date | April 2011

Comments | Just like writer’s block, this is a good representation of the severe artist’s block I have right now. I gave this a blank stare for a few hours and I honestly didn’t know what to do with it. I couldn’t envision anything. Sometimes it’s hard to find inspiration. I guess I didn’t really know what I was going to do from the start, but I’m putting a fork in it – sometimes, less is more.
